SEER is an acronym for Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio. You will here the term SEER rating when purchasing a new air conditioning system, It is extremely critical to understand and appreciate how SEER works because it is the basis for how efficient your air conditioner runs.
Essentially, the higher the SEER rating on your air conditioner, the more efficient it will be. SEERs start at 13 and go as high as 21. Unfortunately, as SEERs go up so does the price of equipment! But, the higher the SEER the less energy your air conditioner will use…this equals lower electric bills!
So, your initial cost of equipment for a higher SEER machine might be high, but your electric bills will be less which over time the savings will offset the high price. In addition, some local utility companies give rebates toward the purchase of higher SEER equipment.
